I booked The POD because I wanted to meet other female solo travelers and luckily I made a very good friend there who is from Hong Kong and later on both of us had an amazing trip to Beijing last year.
Singapore is expensive but if you are on a budget you can still enjoy the place.Food costs are more compared to other South East Asian cities. I’ll make bullet points on my travel experience to make it clearly understandable.
1)Before arriving Singapore do a little research on the places you want to see. eg: Marina Bay Skypark, Gardens by the Bay,China town,Haji lane,Jurong Bird Park,Sentosa Island including Universal Studios.
2)Changi Airport has direct metro(MRT) connections with other parts of the city. When you land make sure you buy a travel pass.It was easier for me because the card works exactly like the London Underground Oyster Card which I’ve used before. There are tourist maps and guides to help you get the train you need. The underground transport system is easy and cheap.
3)If you are traveling solo then stay at POD to socialise and its also beside Haji Lane which is an attraction for hipster millennials. Otherwise there are good hotels and Air BnBs. http://www.booking.com
4)Places to visit with MRT stops:
a)Jurong Bird Park – Various types of birds from around the world and a nature escape from regular city life. (MRT stop Jurong east for buses to the park)
b)Clark Quay :Evening drinks under big umbrellas by the river, good for relaxing.
c)Orchard Road : High End Shoppers paradise, from Gucci to Marc Jacobs all in miles.
d)Chinatown : For authentic chinese food and colorful street market.
e)Bugis(Haji lane),City Hall,Esplanade. (shopping and food)
f)Promenade : For Marina Bay Sands Skypark,Singapore flyer and Gardens by the Bay. (Breathtaking view of the island and get a top of the world experience) . (Minimum $100 for a decent drink and ticket to the Skypark).
g)Little India: Indian shops offering good food and indian shopping experience.
h) Sentosa : Take MRT to harbour front and make way to Level 3 of Vivocity complex, from there take Sentosa express to the island (round trip $4). There are other modes of transport like cable cars ($29) and taxis .
Singapore’s Sentosa Island offers many beautiful things to enjoy but I only had a day trip to the Universal Studios. (Tickets $68 weekdays and & $74 weekends).
Make sure you arrive early around 9am to enjoy the day at best .
These are the places I’ve thoroughly enjoyed in Singapore and I hope to visit again to see other places like the remaining attractions of Sentosa and the East Coast for beach fun.
Singapore is a very well maintained safe city to enjoy quality time alone or with family. It gives you a top class first world experience in South Asia. The people of Singapore are fashionable, friendly and active. You need to do a lot of walking to get the local experience, so shoes are very important .Their famous Laksa is a must try for foodies. If you’re a budget traveler then $500 for a short trip to this city is enough leaving Airfare and Accomodation.
The city is beautiful and its weather is unpredictable so carry umbrellas and a good camera.
